The 16th Annual Classic Car Rally 2015

27th September 2015

Once again our annual Classic Car Rally was a great success with over 60 cars entered with plenty of MG's, Triumphs and E-Types along with some exotic machinery such as the TVR Chimeras.

Rally 2015

The vehicles gathered at the Star Inn in Roberttown, Liversedge from 9 a.m. for a display in the car park, although with so many cars present there was an overflow onto the road! While the drivers and their navigators were being treated to a superb Full English Breakfast in the pub, the vehicles were being judged. There are trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for the best prepared vehicles, and an additional trophy - The Syd Colman Trophy - awarded to the vehicle that catches the judge's eye, maybe for being a bit unusual or outstanding in some other way.

After breakfast, and feeling full, the drivers set off on a 70 mile run guided by their navigators who were following the carefully prepared instruction sheet they had been given. This year the format was changed in that the run did not return to the starting point but proceeded southwards over moorland into Derbyshire and finished at Masson Mills in Matlock Bath. Unfortunately a water-main had burst and the way had been closed which resulted in a 30 mile diversion from the planned route. This caused problems for the navigators who had to find the way to the finishing point with various routes being taken to try to get there on time.

Masson Mills is Richard Arkwright's old textile mill that has been converted into a shopping complex with a museum and cafe, so there was plenty for everyone to see and we are grateful to the management for giving us exclusive use of one level in the multi-storey carpark to display the cars all together. The participants gathered in the conference room for prize-giving and the raffle draw. One of the magnificent TVR Chimeras won the first prize with the Colman prize going to a beutiful Austin Metropolitan.

With glorious weather (once the mist had cleared!), beautiful scenery, an interesting venue and many more cars taking part, it was a very successful day and thanks must go to all who took part for making it so.
